Tokyo Midtown near Roppongi in Tokyo Japan
About
Tokyo Midtown is a massive shopping center, residential, hotel and entertainment complex in Roppongi which is in the center of Tokyo. It was completed in 2007 and has been a popular destination for Japanese and tourists ever since. It is very close to Roppongi Hills and Akasaka Sacas which also are "city within a city" type multi-use developments. Tokyo Midtown includes one of Japan's tallest buildings (#5 as of 2019) called the Midtown Tower of which the top floors are occupied by one of Japan's best hotels, the Ritz Carlton (prices for a room start at around $700 USD per night).
The shopping center that makes up the main part of Tokyo Midtown is calld "The Galleria". It was designed by a firm from Colorado USA and has many high-end shops, restaurants and a 24 hour supermarket. The Suntory Museum of Art is also in Tokyo Midtown. This museum holds various exhibitions throughout the years changing it's displays about every two or three months. Tokyo Midtown is a trendy, modern and chic place for people to hang out, shop and eat. There is nothing particularily "culturally" interesting for a tourist to see but the area along with Roppongi Hills is pretty exciting and interesting to visit. There are a couple nice bars in the area and of course some very nice restaurants so it makes a great place to have a date or just relax in the evening.
One of the coolest aspects of Tokyo Midtown is the park behind the complex that most people tend to miss. The park is called Hinokicho Park and it is a beautiful park / Japanese syle garden with lots of green and a small lake. The park actually sits on the spot where in the Edo Era the Hagi Clan's Feudal lord's villa used to be located (used to be known as the Hinoki Mansion). Many Cherry Trees are planted here along with some of the original Hinoki Cypress trees that occupied the area before the project was built (they were moved out, project built, then moved back in). Hinokicho Park is a serene getaway with plenty of benches to sit down, relax and enjoy the beauty of the park/garden. During Cherry Blossom season or June, when there are hydrangeas abound, the stone walking paths crossing through the park offer peace and tranquility in the middle of the city. A small museum called "21_21 Design Sight" (open 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., closed on Tuesdays, Admission around 1,100 yen) is also located within the park that displays rotating exhibitions if contemporary art.
