Roppongi Hills Tower and Inside the Mall
About
Roppongi Hills is an entertainment, shopping and living complex in Roppongi, Tokyo. It's a "city within a city" where people can live and never have to leave. It has supermarkets, movie theaters, parks, shopping... everything you need to live. Being in the center of Tokyo, as you can imagine, renting an apartment in the Mori Tower will cost ya from $4,000 USD to $25,000 USD a month depending on the size, height and position in the building (here is a list of residences for rent oh, and don't forget the multiple "Building Maintenance Fees" and parking spot costs involved... probably adding an additional $2,000 - $3,000 a month). Furthermore, you won't find Walmart in the complex... only high-end, high priced food and goods. The building is modern looking (opened in 2003) and the shopping/entertainment complex is super clean and modern but, after all, it's just another shopping mall. For some reason there is a huge spider statue out in front of the building.
Roppongi Hills is generally visited by residences of the building and Japanese living in Tokyo who like the "upscale" feeling of being at such a place. It's a big "date night" type of place and they hold all kinds of events to get people to come, some of the events are quite interesting (such as a "Hamburger Competition") so it's worth it to take a quick peek at their website to see if anything fun is going on. As a tourist visiting Japan, it most likely wouldn't be considered a "Must See" type of place but if you have some extra time and would like to go out and get a drink in an upscale area, you could walk through Roppongi Hills first and then hit one of the many bars or restaurants in or around the building. The area is quite "International" so you will see many foreigners who live in the area and tourists alike.
