The Hakata Festival (in Japanese "Hakata Dontaku" 博多どんたく) happens during Japan's "Golden Week", a week in which most Japanese are on off work. The Festival is mainly a parade in which just about anybody can participate. Groups of dancers, singers, housewives and guys with decorated cars parade through the city. Everyone is happy and in a great mood during this festival. A huge number of spectators also show up (some say over 2 million) to watch the parade and the various events and stage shows going on. Spectators and visitors are very welcome to join in and enjoy the festivities. The main parade travels from the starting point Gofukumachi Intersection, to the end point at Fukuoka City Hall
