All kinds of computer, electronic and Anime related shops in Akihabara
About
Akihabara is one of the major cities in Tokyo that sits on the main Yamanote Line loop. It's just a few minutes ride north from Tokyo Station. Originally it was an "Electronics Super City", then in the early 90's starting changing into a "Computer Super City" and now it's also know for "Otaku Goods" and Maid Cafe's. If you visit Akihabara now you can shop for electronics, pick up a new computer, buy some sexy costumes and or dolls and then stop by a Maid Cafe to be served by some cute Japanese girls dressed as maids.... what else could you want. Let your girlfriend/wife go shopping in Ginza while you rumble through the jungle in Akiba (The "Short" name Japanese use for the city)!
On Sundays, Chuo Dori, the main street through the district, is closed to car traffic from 13:00 to 18:00 (until 17:00 from October through March) and you can enjoy watching all kinds of wild and crazy people. Girls singing, guys drooling and people dressed like they've just stepped out of Blade Runner. Many shops are open to the streets peddling their goods and having a grand 'ol time.
A few new, huge, establishments have opened including Yodabashi Electronics (used to be Yodobashi Camera) and Akihabara Crossfield, a business complex with the aim of promoting Akihabara as a center for global electronics technology and trade.
If your into "Otaku Goods", Akihabara has emerged as the center of Japanese Otaku and Anime culture. Dozens of stores specializing in anime, manga, retro video games, figurines, card games and other collectibles have filled the spaces between the electronics retailers. Various other animation related establishments have become popular in the area, particularly maid cafes where waitresses dress up and act like maids or anime characters, and Manga Cafes (in Japanese: Manga Kissa), a type of internet cafe where customers can read comics and watch DVDs in addition to having access to the internet.
The "Pin" on the map below is the the "general" main part of Akiba but the actual area extends all around the station and up and down the streets. You'll need to spend some time walking around and checking out all the cool stuff. Don't forget to hit Yodabashi though (right next to the station), it's a place you'll never forget!
