Tokyo Ramen Street Entrance in Tokyo Station
About
Tokyo Ramen Street (東京ラーメンストリート) is a passage in the underground Tokyo Station "First Avenue" shopping complex that is filled with Ramen shops. It opened in 2009, only the best Ramen shops were invited to open and it is a convenient place to find A.) a nice selection of a bunch of different Ramen types in one spot and B.) a great place to get some delicious Ramen! It's a great place to stop after or before your visit to Tokyo Character Street. Tokyo Ramen Street has become extremely popular over the last couple years because A.) there is some good ramen there and B.) it's very convenient and easy to get to within one of the worlds largest train stations. Be prepared to queue up for 15 to 30 min. and don't forget to purchase your food tickets BEFORE you enter.
Tokyo Ramen Street is very easy to find. When ready to exit the station just look up at the signs and look for "Yaesu Exit", specifically the "South Yaesu Exit". There are plenty of signs and maps and even information desks that will point you in the right direction. Once you exit the South Yaesu Exit find some stairs (they are right there) and go down to the basement. Turn right (see map below) and you will easily see it. The main sign above the passage is, "東京ラーメンストリート" (which literally says, "Tokyo Ramen Street).
The Ramen shops are generally open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. but get pretty busy during lunch and dinner hours with some of the shops requiring you to que up and wait up to 30 min. before being able to get in. Just after the lunch hour, 1:30 p.m. is a good time to go for lunch or early evening/late night. The longest lines are at Rokurinsha Ramen which is famous for its thick noodles served tsukemen-style with dipping sauce. Sometimes people have to wait up to an hour to get into the place.
