About
Tokyo Skytree is a new television broadcasting tower, a new landmark of Tokyo and an Obersvation Deck for tourists (See our full guide on the "Best Oberservation Decks in Tokyo"). It sits above the "Tokyo Skytree Town" and the Shopping Center Tokyo Solamachi near Asakusa. At a height of 634 meters (2,080 ft.) it is the tallest building in Japan and the second tallest structure in the world at the time of its completion (2nd only to The Burj Khalifa in Dubai). A large shopping complex with aquarium is located at its base. The tower serves primarily as a television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region (the area around Tokyo) because the older Tokyo Tower is surrounded by high-rise buildings and is no longer able to put out digital broadcasting coverage. Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012.
Well, the real reason you would go to Tokyo Skytree is to head on up to the Observation Decks where you can get a magnificent view of Tokyo. There are 2 Observation Decks, the first being at 350 meters (1,148 ft.) and the second being at 450 meters (1,476 ft.). The deck at 350 meters is called the Tembo Deck and has three floors. The floors go all the way around the Skytree so you have a 360 degree view. On this deck is the Musashi Sky Restaurant and some cafe's. The second deck at 450 meters is called the Tembo Gallery and they claim to be "the worlds highest skywalk". You will see many people squatting down up there (as if that helps :) because the feeling of "height" is so prominent... well, actually it is! You'll get a fantastic view from up there so don't forget your camera!
