Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura is a Theme Park in Japan near Nikko City. It opened in 1986 and is like a "Western Town" in the US with the park re-creating a complete "Edo Era" town and filling it with "Edo Era" characters. The "Edo Town" they re-create is based on the "Golden Age" of Edo (Tokyo), called the Genroku Era. The town is very large and has recreated buildings such as government buildings, Samurai residences, shops and more. The "Characters" are always in character and even talk and act like they did during the Edo times. Not only can you experience a full town and it's people, there are many exciting and fun shows to watch along with Ninja "workshops", archery and "Shuriken" (star) throwing.
Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura is a GREAT place to visit, highly recommended by this site. Yes, it is a little far from Tokyo but if you are planning to visit Nikko, you may want to plan at least a half day at this park. Even from Tokyo you can jump on a train and be at Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura in a couple hours. Another alternative is to even stay a night at one of the lovely Onsens (Japanese Hot Springs) nearby and make a night/day trip out of it, it would make a great bonus adventure in Japan. Another Theme Park "Tobu World Square" is also nearby so you could spend half a day in each which would make for a fun filled day!
