About
Yumoto Onsen ("Onsen" means "Hot Springs") is a small hot springs town within Nikko National Park that sits next to Lake Yunoko and is about 2 hours by car or bus from Nikko Station. The town is a "Hot Springs" destination with around 10 Hot Springs hotels and Ryokans (Japanese style Inn). There is a public bath open to the public (without having to stay at a hotel) on the north side of town inside Onsenji, a Buddhist temple. Near Onsenji Temple is Yunodaira Marsh where most of the town's hot springs water boils up. There are little walking trails around the marsh and also places to soak your feet.
On the southern side of Lake Yunoko (the opposite side that Yumoto Onsen is on), there is a beautiful waterfall called "Yudaki" which plunges out of the lake. From this waterfall there is a trail you can hike called the Senjogahara Plateau Nature Trail that meanders along the Yukawa River (the river that flows out of Lake Yunoko). This trail crosses over the Senjogahara Plateau marshland to yet another waterfall, the Ryuzu Waterfall, at the shores of Lake Chuzenji.

Yumoto Onsen is either reached by car or bus. Note that during the Autumn season this area is quite crowded incurring long traffic delays (expect the drive to take double or triple the time). By bus you can catch a "Tobu Bus" from withing central Nikko (there are about 1 or 2 buses per hour) and the trip takes about an hour and a half.

Hours: This is a Area, therefore each establishment has it's own hours but generally shops in Japan generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. while restaurants are generally open until 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.
