Shibuya Crossing
About
Shibuya Crossing is probably one of the top 3 most famous sights in Tokyo. It's been seen in movies (Lost in Translation, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Retribution, etc.) countless times and shown in YouTube videos thousands of times. The statue of Hachiko is right near the crossing which is also right next to Shibuya Station. Once the pedestrian lights go green, people can cross from any direction and the intersection becomes inundated with people.
Most people cross from Shibuya Station over the the entrance of Center Gai. Although the crossing is actually used for regular 'ol working folks and students in their everyday life, the crossing has become quite the tourist attraction with countless tourists taking pictures and videos as they walk accross the intersection (please repect other poeple). Not only is the intersection itself one of the busiest in the world and compared to places like Times Square in New York, a Starbucks coffee shop that over-looks the intersection is known to be the busiest Starbucks in the world. Shibuya Crossing can be viewed and is interesting to watch from a variety of positions including crossing the intersection on foot, standing on a corner and just watching people cross and viewing from above from a nearbye building. Furthermore, the view is quite different in daylight hours and during the dark hours as multiple massive neon signs light up, sparke and flash creating a futuristic atmosphere.
