Omotesando in Tokyo Japan by Colorado Jones
About
Omotesando is a large boulevard that runs from the entrance of the Meiji Shrine, to Aoyama-dori in Harujuku, Tokyo Japan. The street was originally built in the Taishou Era as the main approach (in Japanese; Omote 表 Sandou 参道) to the Meiji Shrine which is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shouken. Omotesando is lined with large Zelkova Trees (Japanese Elms) and beautiful buildings (know as an "Architectural Showcase") which are filled with super fashionable shops such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Tod's, Dior, Omotesandou Hills and Gyre. Omotesando is famous for being one of the best locations to buy luxury-goods in Tokyo.
During the weekdays the boulevard is not so busy and you can take a nice leisurely stroll down the wide sidewalks. However, on the weekends (especially holiday type weekends) the sidewalks can get quite busy with shoppers and tourists of all ages and nationalities. Takeshita Street is just a couple blocks north of Omotesando so a lot of over-flow, teenager type shops are also on the boulevard. Omotesando has more of a laid-back, upper-scale type vibe with big green trees, shops spread out a bit more and no neon signs or loud speaker music/sales blasting at you. Be sure to walk down some of the side streets as they are filled with cool little places to eat and shop.
