Hoppy Street in Asakusa, Tokyo Japan
About
Hoppy Street is an outdoor/indoor food and drinking stall street in Asakusu, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tokyo. After visiting all the shrines and temples, shopping and taking pictures... you're probably hungry, tired, need to sit down and in need of a nice cold beer. There are plenty of really good normal restaurants in Asakusa but if you are feeling that nostalgic old down-town vibe, head on over to Hoppy Street for some delicious dishes. It can get quite crowded and fun on the weekends. Once you get there, start hopping down the street... no, that's a joke. "Hoppy" does not mean "a very hoppy place", "Hoppy" in Japan is a carbonated drink that tastes like beer. It comes in a bottle like a beer bottle and you pour this Hoppy drink into other liquors to make some sort of drink. Generally Hoppy is poured into Japanese Shochu. So, instead of a beer, try a "Hoppy" on "Hoppy Street"!
Getting there - From Sensoji Temple head West. "Which way is West!?" you may ask... well, look around and you'll see Tokyo Skytree off in the distance (standing in front of and facing Sensoji, at about your 4:00). Tokyo Skytree is East so you need to head in the opposite direction. Hoppy Street is pretty easy to find and if you have any problems just ask somebody, "can you please hop me over to Hoppy Street? | Sumimasen, Hoppie Odori wa dochi desuka?" It's only about a 5 to 10 min. walk over there from Sensoji Temple.
