Hakone Shrine Torii on Lake Ashinoko by Redd George (CC BY 2.0)
About
Hakone Shrine is a Japanese Shinto shrine on the shores of Lake Ashi in the Hakone Area. According to shrine fable the shrine was founded in 757 during the reign of Emperor Koushou. The main shrines buildings are located off the lake and back hidden in the dense forest while one of the Torii stands famously in Lake Ashinoko (there are many pictures of this Torii, the lake and Mt. Fuji in the background). There is a path leads from the torii gate in Lake Ashi to the main building of the shrine. The shrine is very beautiful throughout the year. The Hakone Komagatake Ropeway is also within walking distance of Hakone Shrine. If you are thinking of staying a night or two in the Hakone area take a look at our Lodging in the Hakone Area page.
