About
Yushima Tenjin Shrine is a Shinto Shrine devoted to the God of Learning, Tenjin. So, you can imagine that lots of students, especially from the University of Tokyo, frequent the site especially when they are hoping to pass entrance exams in April. The original shrine is said to have been built in 458 for another God, the God of Strength and Sports, but then the shrine was expanded in 1355 to include Tenjin too. So yes, both the God of Learning and the God of Strength and Sports are enshrined here. There are many plum trees which surround the shrine and every year they hold a "Plum Bossom" festival (Ume Matsuri, 梅祭り) in February or March when the Cherry Trees bloom.
Yushima Tenjin Shrine is in the Kanda and Ochanomizu area which has many other fun attractions too.
