Yushima Confucian Shrine in Ochanomizu by VS5 (CC BY-SA 3.0)
About
Yushima Seido Temple is a Confucian Temple (Although Neo-Confucianism was the principal philosophy during the Tokugawa Shogunate, there are not many around) near Ochanomizu in Tokyo. The original temple was constructed in 1630 in Ueno Park (called Shinobi Ga Oka at that time) by Hayashi Razan, a neo-Confucian scholar. In 1690 the temple was moved to its current site. At one time, neo-Confucianism was the "Official" philosophy of Japan and Yushima Seido was turned into a State-Run school under control of the Shogunate in 1797. During the Tokugawa Shogunate the school was popular and attracted many men of talent but was closed after the Meiji Restoration in 1871.
Yushima Seido Temple is in the Kanda and Ochanomizu area which has many other fun attractions too.
