Yoshimine-dera (in Japanese; Yoshimina Dera 善峯寺) is located in the western mountains of Kyoto where it is a temple of the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism. it was established in 1029 when a priest from Enryakuji (another temple in Kyoto), named Gesan made is as a personal retreat. The temple was as destroyed in the Onin War but was rebuilt in 1621. The "Main Object" of worship here is a statue of thousand-armed Kannon. Another important feature of the shrine is the Gliding Dragon pine tree which was trained to grow horizontally and is over 50 meters long.

Train/Bus;
#1 Train: Hankyu Kyoto Line from central Kyoto to Higashimuko Station, 20 min.
#2 Bus: from Higashimuku station take the Hankyu Bus #66, 30 min. (one bus per hour)
In January and February the bus does not go all the way to the top so if you want to continue up you will have to walk about a mile.

Hours & Fees
Hours: The grounds of Shrines and Temples are generally open 27/7, 365 days a year but, many set their own hours. If hours are set, they are generally open from 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. in the morning and close around 4:30 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. in the evening.
Cost: The general grounds of Shrines and Temples are free but may charge a small fee (a couple/few hundred yen) for special gardens, exhibitions, artifact viewing, etc.
