Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto Japan by KENPEI, GNU Free
About
Yasaka Shrine (in Japanese; Yasaka Jinjya 八坂神社) is a Shinto shrine in Kyoto's Gion area. Construction started in 656 and was once called the "Gion Shrine". Yasaka Shrine is one of the most famous and most popular tourist destinations in Kyoto. When entering the shrine, there is a main hall that combines the "Honden" (inner sanctuary) and "Haiden" (offering hall) into a single building. Most tourists and locals love to visit the shrine because it is well known for its summer festival, the Gion Matsuri, which is celebrated every July.
