About
The Yamashita Park (in Japanese; Yamashita Kouen 山下公園) is the first seaside park in Japan located right in front of Yokohama Port. It's a great "Date Spot" after dinner somewhere in Yokohama as you can stroll along the walkway that is in front of the bay. From the walkway you can see Minato Mirai, Yokohama Bay Bridge and boats/ships cruising around. It is especially scenic at night. The park itself is about 700 meters long form the Osanbashi to Yamashita Pier. The park includes a grass field, a rose garden, the “Little Girl With Red Shoes On” statue, the “Guardian of Water” statue which is a gift from San Diego, a sister city of Yokohama. It used to be great fun to come on the weekends and watch street performers but for some unknown reason (like in many places) they have been kicked out... mostly.
You can also visit the Hikawa Maru cruise liner that was first put into service in 1930 along the Yokohama-Vancouver/Seattle line. The ship had first-class cabins that attracted the likes of the imperial family and Charlie Chaplin for the transpacific journey.
