Warayakiya specializes in a method of cooking that hails from Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku in which rather than grilling over charcoal they grill over straw which burns much hotter at around 900 C. Why do this? Because it really sears meats nicely. It's usually pretty packed and you can see trendy professionals always sitting outside waiting to get in. Warayakiya is considered to be one of the best Izakaya in Tokyo and the "Seared Bonito" should be something to try. A full menu of grilled meats and vegetables is also available. Reservations are recommended on weekends.
