About

Tsukishima is a "man-made" island created in 1892. The earth used to create the island was used from the dredging of Tokyo Bay. The area is currently your mix of new high rise apartments and "old Tokyo" feel but is best known for its Monjyayaki (もんじゃ焼き). Monjyayaki is a type of Japanese pan-fried batter with various ingredients chopped and mixed in. Monjyayaki is very similar to Okonomiyaki but the mix is runnier than Okonomiyaki and the ingredients are finely chopped and mixed in. Tsukishima makes a nice place for a late night dinner date. You can still find remnants of the atmosphere of old Tokyo if you poke around the back alleys and lanes, especially around Sumiyoshi Shrine.
