Toei Uzumasa Eigamura in Kyoto [Torekyuu]
About
Toei Eigamura (full name: Toei Uzumasa Eigamura 東映太秦映画村) or Toei Kyoto Studio Park or Movie Town is a theme park and actual filming location rolled into one. The theme park buildings and setting is set in the Edo Period (1603-1868), and can be visited as a tourist and it is used as the set for many Japanese TV shows and films. You can also watch TV shows or films being made but have to be very quite and respect the work that is going on.
The park replicates some famous areas around Japan and of course staff dress in historic clothes. They also have ninja performances, Guided park tours, street performaces (classic performers), parades, a ninja maze, a 360 degree 3D theater, filming demonstrations, and a haunted house that is supposed to be one of the scariest in Japan! You can also dress up like a Samurai or Geisha and get you photo taken! Who doesn't want to be a Samurai!? There is plenty to do and see at the park and well worth a visit for a tourist. The historical temples and palaces are of course the "Real Deal" but it is really nice to take a break and see the lighthearted and fun side of Japanese culture.
