The Tenmangu Shrine (in Japanese; Tenmangu Jinja 天満宮, usually referred to as the "Osaka Tenmangu Jinja") in Osaka is believed to be a very important shrine in all of Japan especially to those who are Shinto deity devotees and was founded in 949 AD. The Tenmangu Shrine hosts a famous festival, the Tenjin Matsuri which is held every year at July 24 and 25. This is one of the top three festivals besides Kyoto's Gion Matsuri and Tokyo's Kanda Matsuri of the country. The temple is located in a residential area and has a neighborhood feeling about it and locals pray at the shrine mostly for academic fortunes.
