About

Sukyo Mahikari Headquarters and Administrative Buildings

Sukyo Mahikari is a religion based out of Japan. It is considered a "New Religion" because is was founded fairly recently in 1959 by Kotama Okada, a Japanese national. Sukyo Mahikari has centers in more than 100 countries and was registered as an independent religious organization on June 23 1978 by Keishu Okada, the adopted daughter of Kotama Okada, as part of an amicable settlement following the passing of Kotama Okada. Sukyo Mahikari announced in 2013 that it had more than a million members, though this has not been verified. The word Sukyo means "Universal Principles" while the word Mahikari means "True Light". "Sukyo Mahikari is an organization that helps people to attain happiness by practicing the universal principles of (Sukyo) and True Light (Mahikari)" as stated on their website. If you are coming to Japan to visit The World Shrine (the main headquarters of Sukyo Mahikari in Takayama Japan) and would like a hassle free trip, be sure to visit JapanTravelPackages.com for an experienced personal guide.

Inside Sukyo Mahikari

The "Temple" on this page is the "Main Branch" / "Home Base" of Sukyo Mahikari and is quite a sight. Some foreign tourists to Takayama have even said "it was the best thing in Takayama". If you wish to see what a modern no-expenses-spared "New Religion" temple looks like, try and visit this. The "Main hall" is open to visitors on odd days of the month and is worth seeing, especially the massive stage with an aquarium and pipe organ. No talking is allowed within the temple and there are no members around to explain anything though they have some leaflets in the foyer. The main temple in Takayama is quite beautiful and can be seen from afar from many places throughout Takayama.

Beliefs and practices:

1.) Sukyo Mahikari promotes the practice of and research into natural agriculture. The practice of natural agriculture aims to help people to cultivate respect for nature and restore soil to its pure and fertile condition.

2.) Sukyo Mahikari teaches the transmission of "Light Energy" which they call "The Art of True Light" (which means Mahikari) which is believed to come from the palm of the hand. In this spiritual practice, practitioners believe that the Light of God is transmitted from the palm of the hand (the giver) to another person (the receiver), allowing them to purify and revitalise the spirit, mind and body, and to nurture the soul.

3.) Sukyo Mahikari encourages people to incorporate the divine principles in their daily life by practicing three virtues: gratitude, humility and acceptance of the will of God. Furthermore it also encourages the practice of other virtues such as prayer, cultivating a more positive attitude, promoting harmony in families, helping others and being of service to God.

4.) Depending on your personal beliefs, the most controversial aspect of Sukyo Mahikari, of which you will find little public information, teaches that Japan is at the center of human civilization and that the Japanese were the first of God's creatures with Jesus himself being Japanese. Further, it teaches that all languages, cultures, religions, and civilizations originate in Japan.
