Shinnyodo Temple in Kyoto by Norio NAKAYAMA (CC BY-SA 2.0) on SnapJapan.com
About
Shinnyodo Temple (in Japanese; Shin Yo Do Ji 真正極楽寺) is a temple of the "Tendai" Sect and is one of the "lesser known" temples in Kyoto although it is quite famous for it's autumn colors and is relatively less crowded than some of the other more known temples. It was constructed by a priest in 984 though it was destroyed during the Onin War and then rebuilt. The temple area is pretty large with many buildings and a 3 story pagoda. You can stroll about most of the temple without charge but to see the "Inner Chamber" or the gardens a ticket for a small fee is required.
