About
The Sento Imperial Palace (in Japanese; 仙洞御所) is a secondary palace across from the Kyoto Imperial Palace located at the Kyoto Imperial Park. It was built on the occasion of the Emperor Go-mizunoo's retirement during the 17th century, i.e. a "Retirement Home" for retired emperors. It was completed in 1630 and unfortunately was destroyed by a fire in 1854 and never rebuilt but there are a few buildings and a gorgeous garden (which is it's main attraction). Tourists and locals can visit the palace through booking a free tour at the Imperial Household Agency, which manages all the Imperial properties.
