Bridge in Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo Japan by Guilhem Vellut (CC BY 2.0)
About
Rikugien Garden (in Japanese; Riku Gi En 六義園) was originally constructed between 1695 and 1702 by orders of the Shogun of that time. The park fell into disarray after a short period but the original founder bought the garden back and restored it to it's beauty in 1878. In 1938 it was donated to the city of Tokyo and is now a public place for all to enjoy. Rikugien Garden is considered by some to be the most beautiful Japanese landscape garden in Tokyo (Koishikawa Korakuen is also considered to be "the most beautiful"). In English translation, it means "six poems garden" and consists of a small pond, trees and a hills which the garden reproduces and represents 88 scenes from famous poems. There is a vast network of very nice trails and you can find peace and tranquility in it's beauty. Stop by at one of the teahouses to take a break and have some soothing green tea.
