About
Locally known as Tetsugaku no michi, the Philisopher's Walk is a stone path located at the Hgashiyama district. It follows a cherry tree lined canal between Ginkaku Ji and Nanzen Ji temples. The path was named the "Philosopher's Walk" because Nishida Kitaro, a Kyoto University professor, used to walk it for daily meditation. The path is a very pleasant walking path where there is a canal and alongside are hundreds of cherry trees. It is best to visit the Philisopher's Walk in April where rees explode with color, making this one of the city's most popular Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots. It takes about 30min. to walk the complete distance and there are many sights to visit along the way.
