About
The Nikko Senhime Monogatari is a semi-Western style hotel that offers Japanese and Western style rooms with either Futons or Beds. This is a "Japanese Style" Western hotel so do not expect Western food or service, the facilities are aimed at Japanese taste. They offer various "levels" of rooms from simple to deluxe style with your own hot springs bath in your room with most the hotel rooms offer a nice view of the nearby hillside and river. As for dinner, you eat in small individual booths and the food is Japanese, small dishes with a large variety of things. The breakfast is a choice of Western or Japanese but the Western is very Japanese style in reality. The real treat here is the fabulous onsen, which includes an outdoor onsen too. The staff speaks English well and are very attentive and efficient but not intrusive. Check in is at 3:00 p.m. but like all lodging places in Japan you can leave your luggage while you go out and about sightseeing.
Nikko Senhime Monogatari is in a perfect location to explore nearby shrines and also walk to the Shinkyo Bridge. In the other direction, the imperial villa is nearby with a lovely garden. And don't miss the walk along the river to see the Bake-Jizo stone statues. The stop for buses to Lake Chusenji and the Kegon Falls is just a couple of minutes away.
