Entrance gate to Nijo Ninja house on a sunny day
About
One of the "lesser known" attractions in Kyoto but one of the "coolest". Please plan ahead before visiting this as this is a private residence and they conduct "personal tours" for those who make reservations in advance. Nijo Jinya used to be an inn used by feudal lords visiting Kyoto during the Edo Period. It is very advisable to book a tour in the area to ensure safety because there are trap doors, secret pathways and hidden escape routes used by the feudal lords during that period. Tour guides are only Japanese speaking so non-Japanese speakers need to bring a Japanese speaking friend or guide. Note: To visit this attraction reservations are required at least one day in advance, See "Resources" below for the official website information.
