About
The Katsura Imperial Villa is one of Japan's most important cultural treasures and is considered by many as one of the finest examples of purely Japanese architecture and garden design. Construction was started by Prince Hachijō Toshihito around 1622 and after his death his son Toshitada continued the construction later on in his life until his death. The villa continued to be passed down and construction of the villa were added here and there by the continuing generations of the Hachijo-no-Miya family.
