Japanese Food, Fish and Rice

"Fish and Rice" gets... quite the bad rap in America. "All they eat is fish and rice" type of thing. I... actually feel sorry for those people, they don't know what they are missing. I mean sure, Steak and Potatos or a greasy hamburger is great once in a while too but there are so many other great foods! Especially Japan where food is treated... as "food!" and not something to just gets some carbs/protien.
Takes a look at the image I posted (click it to get a larger view). I made that! No, really! Its a pretty simple dinner... grilled Salmon, Rice, Umeboshi (pickled plums), Furikake (a "seasoning" which you sprinkle over rice), Shisou (Which I don't actually know what it is in English but its good!) and Miso Soup with mushrooms, long onion and some tofu. The "Umeboshi" and "Shisou" may be a little strange to the beginner mouth but the other stuff fits any palette. So simple... so... refreshing.
And... not only does this taste GREAT! Its super healthy! (well, minus too much sodium probably). You can that the portion size is of a healthy amount too.
How I made it:
Salmon - bought at the local supermarket just threw it in a frypan with some olive oil on low-medium heat. Let it fully cook on one side (5-10 min.) then flip it, simple.
Rice - Japanese Rice Cooker, simple. Pour in a half cup of rice and a cup of water and push the button... 1 hour later its done (have to plan ahead).
Umeboshi and Shisou - bought in a package at the store but... not the cheap stuff, I like the good stuff:)
Miso Soup - Boil up a cup or two of water, scoop up a healthy amount of miso (you can buy in a package) and melt it in. Drop in whatever you like... I put in mushrooms and chopped long onion with some tofu squares.
Done.
Simple, great tasting and healthy!
