Shogun Iemitsu Mausoleum (Taiyuinbyo) in Nikko by Guilhem Vellut (CC BY 2.0)
About
Taiyuinbyo (in Japanese; Tai Yu In Byo 大猷院廟) is the mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu, the grandson of Ieyasu. Iemitsu had great respect for his grandfather Ieyasu and therefore purposely made his mausoleum not quite as lavish as the Toshogu Shrine which is the mausoleum of Ieyasu. The complex is a mix of Shinto and Buddhist structures. Taiyuinbyo is a "subtemple" of the Rinnoji Temple complex and is just west (10 min. walk) from Toshogu Shrine.
Taiyuinbyo or the Iemitsu Mausoleum is in the Nikko Area of Japan. See our Nikko Area page for a complete guide.
