Ikeda Castle by Blazeman (CC0 1.0)
About
The area in and around Ikeda Castle was always in involved in battles and struggles for power. Ikeda Noriyori built a fortification here in 1334 and the castle grew in size and strength over the years during the Sengoku Era. In 1568 Ikeda Castle was taken by Oda Nobunaga (the 1st great unifier of Japan) but realized how great Ikeda was and kept him as a "retainer". Ikeda continued to control the area under Nobunaga's hand while adding to his castle some of the techniques Nobunaga had to offer. In 1570 the castle was taken by yet another rival lead by Araki Murashige in a coup, only to abandon the castle ten years later.
There are not many "original ruins" at this site. However there are a bunch of reconstructed defensive structures they used during the Sengoku Era which is quite interesting. The park is very pretty and its interesting to see a castle that may not be "massive" but really did partake in many battles.
