About
Hamarikyu Gardens is a typical example of the famous gardens of the Edo Period. It is is a beautiful and historical tract of parkland near the Shiodome district, and beside the Sumida River where it enters Tokyo Bay. Open to the public in 1946 (previously owned by Shogun's and Emperor's) Hamarikyu Gardens was designated a famous site as well as a site with high historical significance. A peony garden, plum tree grove and cosmos fields have flowers for every season. Visitors can also enjoy refreshment at a teahouse in Nakashima located in the middle of the pond in the garden that offers matcha and Japanese sweets in a tea-ceremony style.
