The Yamagata Hanagasa Festival is rather new, started in 1964. "Hanagasa" means "Flower Hat", therefore over 10,000 dancers holding their Flower Hats dance through the streets of Yamagata.  The festival attracts a lot of spectators, they say over 1 million people visit Yamagata during the festival. Groups of participants design there own costumes and hats and dance in unison.  There are typically over 100 groups of dancers that parade through the streets shouting "Yassho Makkasho!" Specific Place: From Tokamachi Corner to the front of Bunshokan Hall.
