The Hachinohe Enburi Festival or Rich Harvest Festival is a festival to pray for... well, a rich harvest. Every year many groups of dancers, flute players, drummers, bell ringers and singers parade through the city starting at Shinra Jinja early in the morning. The participants are collorful and eleborately decorated and wear large hats called "Eboshi". In the old days farmers used to carry an "Eburi", a farming tool somwhat like a shovel, while performing their dance. There are many different types of dances performed all representing something special such as the dance in the palace of the local Feudal Lord or the dance while making a bonfire at night.
